Instructions

Download and print your Dots and Boxes board (a grid of dots).

  • Players take turns drawing a single horizontal or vertical line connecting two adjacent dots.
  • If you complete the fourth side of a box, write your initial inside it — that box is now yours!
  • If you complete a box, you get another turn.
  • The game continues until all boxes have been completed.
  • The player with the most boxes at the end wins!

Tip: Think ahead to avoid giving easy boxes to your opponent.

Variations

Colorful Boxes

  • Instead of initials, each player colors in their boxes with a different color — makes the board bright and fun.

Team Play

  • Play in pairs — teammates take turns and help each other plan moves.

Hidden Bonus Box

  • Before playing, secretly mark 1 box on the back of the printed page. The player who captures that box earns bonus points!

Timed Turns

  • Add a timer for each turn to encourage quick thinking and lively play.
